Same story with my polycarbonate MacBook from 2006. My current laptop is a unibody 2009 Macbook Pro which is still 100% working, and I gave it only a battery replacement after the original battery had been in daily use for 6 years, at which point it still offered 2-3 hours of use down from the original 8-9 hours.
